Isn’t this guy a little crazy to be taking on such challenges?
I can assure you I am just like you and everyone else, only I have a few more obstacles to overcome than most people because I have Parkinson’s Disease. I was diagnosed over ten years ago. I have always been active and an avid cyclist and I have not let my diagnosis slow me down. In fact, I have committed myself to staying active and to continuing to challenge myself. In 2008 I completed a solo bike ride across the United States, starting in Portland, Oregon and finishing in Boston, Massachusetts. “Doug’s Wild Ride” was born in 2010 when I rode solo from Anchorage to Fairbanks, Alaska. I gotta admit, it was tough. I challenged myself even further the next year by riding over 900 miles, solo from Deadhorse, AK to Anchorage, AK. It was brutal.
I am the founder and president of Adelsys Inc., a third-party biomedical service group. I have a Master’s degree in Clinical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University. I am a graduate of the Clinical Research Learning Institute, an offshoot of the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.
I look forward to sharing my thoughts and adventures with you on this blog.
